I’ve just been reading this article on the professional standards http://bit.ly/1MtYhvH. It occurred to me that I agree wholeheartedly that our new professional standards are not simply competencies which we must fulfill in order to justify our existence as teachers.
We must go further than that and aspire to their words and reflect on our actions, both theoretically and practically, to improve our practice.
David, Gemma and Deborah are a team of pedagogy specialists passionate about currency in PCET
David has responsibility for teaching and learning development and enhancement. His role includes programme leadership for the PGCE/Dip HE PCET programmes and academic development and research within the fields of new and innovative learning and teaching strategies, such as blended learning, e-learning and distance learning, in particular looking at the way in which new technologies can be seen as a shift from information consumption to information creation and therefore proactive participation by users.
Previously, David has led the introduction and implementation of PebblePad, and other technologies across the Faculty.
He has presented some of his work at academic conferences both nationally and internationally and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
Gemma has programme lead responsibilities for the BA (Hons) Post Compulsory Education and Training (PCET) at Northumbria University. She is also part of the teaching and academic development team for the suite of PCET programmes with responsibility for mentorship.
Gemma’s interests are research focussed on technology enhanced teaching and learning, within higher education, and the challenges of mentoring within the further education sector.
Other interests include the development of further education in terms of policy and both national and international educational government agendas.
Deborah has responsibilities for teaching and learning development within the Post Compulsory Education and Training Department at Northumbria University. Deborah’s role includes academic development, teaching and research within the fields of new and innovative learning and teaching strategies.
Currently involved creative and innovative aspects of learning delivery and curriculum development, specifically within inclusive education.
Other academic interests include observation of teaching and learning and developing the use of emerging technologies within education.
